My patient just had right knee meniscus surgery 7 days ago, she now has excruciating LEFT knee nerve pains that she calls absolutely bizarre and reports that it started 1 day after her surgery following only wearing the DVT cuffs on her left leg (non surgical). Why can this be?

the intermittent pneumatic compressionis has been used widely in order to prevent deep vein thrombosis. while under going surgery, patient is immobilised, there by pooling of blood occurs in the legs , which causes deep vein thromboisis. intermittent pneumatic compression is used to pump blood from veins and act as a veins.complications of intermittent pneumatic compression are nerve injury, swelling, skin damge. if pressure of pneumatic compression is higher than prescribed leads to nerve damage. Nerve damge or pain occurs is due to continuous and higher pressure of intermittent pneumatic compressive devices.

the intermittent pneumatic cuff was used for her while she was undergoig surgery. she developed left knee pain which is excruiating neve pain 1 day after surgery. she might have nerve injury due to use of pneumatic compression devices.
