Menorrhea means the flow of blood at the time of menstruation. Menstruation means, it is the process of discharging the blood and other materials from the lining of the uterus of female reproductive system at aregular intervals of normaly at every 28 days from puberty untill the menpause.

The menstrual cycle has three phases.

  1. Follicular phase (days 1 to 14)
  2. Ovulatory phase (day 14)
  3. Luteal phase (days 14 to 28)

MENSTRUAL DISORDERS

  1. Dysmenorrhea (Dys-menorrhea) : It is also called pain full menstruation. In this condition there is a severe cramp or pain during the menstruation periods. The charcateristics of pain may be either sharp, intermittent or dull.
  2. Amenorrhea (A-menorrhea) : It is the condition that, there is absence of menstrual period in women in reproductive age.
  3. Oligomenorrhea (Oligo-menorrhea) : In this condition there is a infrequent of light menstruation in women. The menstrual period intervalls beyond 35 days or more days gap.
  4. Polymenorrhea (Poly-menorrhea) : In this cindition there is frequent occurance of menstrual periods in women. That is cycles with intervals of 21 days or less.
  5. Menorrhagia (meno-rrhagia) : Meno means "prolonged" and rrhagia means "excessive flow". It is an abnormality with heavy bleeding or prolonged menstrual periods.
  6. Hypomenorrhea (Hypo-menorrhea) : It is condition in which abnormally light menstrual bellding can occur.
  7. Metrorrhagia (metro-rrhagia) : Metro means "time" and rrhagia means "excessive flow". In this condition we can see bleeding occuring at irregualr times, especially outside the expected intervals of menstrual cycle in women.
  8. Abnormal Uterine Bleeding : In this condition the bleeding occurs at any time like, between periods, after sexual intercourse, after menopause, may occur frequently or infrequently.
