Gasoline Direct Injection System (GDI)
Gasoline Direct Injection System or petrol direct injection is most widely used fuel injection system in gasoline engines. GDI system basically injects gasoline directly in to the engine cylinder at the end of compression stroke. Unlike the traditional fuel injection system where fuel is injected in intake manifold in GDI injects fuel inside the engine cylinder.
- The GDI has limitation that at increased speed there is limit for amount of fuel injected, as the fuel is to be injected in very short time.
- one more limitation of GDI is cleaning effect as in traditional injection system air-fuel mixture is injected so burn out residues are cleaned
- in modern GDI manifold injection is also used along with electronic sensors which proved more effective.
L jetronic injection system:
This system was very popular and widely used 80's. L stands for luft that means air. So basically in L-jetronic system air speed and quantity is sensed and accordingly fuel is injected in to the intake manifold.
- As per the need of engine ECU (engine control unit) analyses data from air flow sensor and various other sensors and correct quantity of fuel is injected intermittently.
- cleansing effect is there and less carbon particles, suite are emitted.
- though the other losses are there like evaporation in manifolds, time lag, etc L- jetronic was proved very effective for very long time
