How does a Dry unit work on a Thyssenkrupp elevator

Homework Answers

Answer #1

A dry power unit is assembled with the pump, motor, control valve, and silencer underneath the tank. The tank is purely an oil reservoir. This is why they are called dry power units. The motor, in conjunction with sheaves and belts, drives the dry pump. The pump speed, or GPM, can be altered by changing the RPM of the pump. The RPM is changed by modifying the size of the sheaves. This means that one pump size can be used for a range of contract speeds, simply by varying the sheaves.

An elevator cable breaks when a 875 kg elevator is 20.0 m above the top of a huge spring (k = 6.00×104 N/m ) at the bottom of the shaft. Calculate the work done by gravity on the elevator before it hits the spring. Calculate the speed of the elevator just before striking the spring. Calculate the amount the spring compresses (note that here work is done by both the spring and gravity).

An elevator cable breaks when a 970 kg elevator is 23.0 m above a huge spring (k = 2.10×105 N/m ) at the bottom of the shaft. Calculate the work done by gravity on the elevator before it hits the spring. Calculate the speed of the elevator just before striking the spring. Calculate the magnitude of the amount the spring compresses (note that work is done by both the spring and gravity in this part.
