I am a EE in college about to take computer architecture and design. It has been a while since I took Intro Digital System design. Out of curiousity what topics should I review and what types of digital systems are important when more complex systems are introduced? I remember in particular struggling with registers and latches. What are the basics of those?
1. Revise Number Systems (Binary, Octal, hexadecimal, Decimal, BCD, Bits , Bytes) , ASCII , Conversion, representation
2. Boolean Algebra, Karnaugh Mapping
3. Logic Family - TTL, ECL, CMOS etc
4. Logic Gates - NOT, AND, OR, NAND, NOR, EXOR, EXNOR
5. Combinational Circuits - Encoder, Decoder, Multiplexer, Demultiplexer, Unidirectional & Bidirectional Buffer, Tristate logic
6. SR Latch, D - Flop, T - Flop, JK Floop, Master - Slave configuration, Truth Tables, Excitation Table, State Diagram, State Table
