It is standard practice for PV designers to specify an inverter which has a LOWER power rating than the maximum output of the PV array. Give TWO (2) reasons why this may benefit the design.

Homework Answers

Answer #1

Two reasons are:

1)One of the prominent reason is that the actual Power generated at PV cells is Derated or get reduced by 20% with respect to 100% standard operating conditions , so Inverter has to be made of lower rating than actual power rating so that it should work efficiently with respect to power input from PV cell units .

So, PV array will rarely deliver its rated power, sizing an inverter to match that PV typical peak power can make better use of the inverter’s AC output capacity.

2) The output power cost will get reduced significantly with optimum and lower rated inverters than PV array as required output capacity will be better utilised and optimum number of inverter will be required to operate solar plant and hence giving max power at minimum cost !!

Your group has been asked to design a portion of a power supply which reduces the variation due to ripple from the rectifier stage. The completed power supply is intended to provide 300W of 48V DC power to an RF transmitter. The transformer stage transforms a 3-phase AC power source at 60 Hz from 120 V RMS to 50V RMS, which is rectified before being applied to your circuit. You are designing the regulator, not the rectifier. The input to...

Hours of sleep: The table below provides information about hours of sleep. Calculate statistical power for a one-tailed test (a = 0.05, or 5%) aimed at determining if those in the sample sleep fewer hours, on average, than those in the population. Recalculate statistical power with alpha of 0.01, or 1%. Explain why changing alpha affects power. Explain why we should not use a larger alpha to increase power. Without performing any computations, describe how statistical power is affected by...

A local industrial company has two departments. In the larger department, about 45 sales invoices are completed each day; in the smaller department about 15 invoices are completed each day. About 50% of all sales invoices completed in each department specify discounts from the company’s list prices. However, the exact percentage varies from day to day. Sometimes it may be higher than 50%, while other times it might be lower. For a period of one year, and for each department,...

It has been said that the age at which a child learns to read is normally distributed. Suppose the average age at which a child learns to read is 5.25 with a standard deviation of 0.49 years. Further, assume that the average class size of 24 may be considered a random sample. Step 1 of 3: Describe the sampling distribution that results. Be sure to include all rationales. Step 2 of 3: Would it be unusual to find a class...
