What issues may China face in the future over agricultural land? Why might these issues arise and how could they play out? How is the Chinese situation different from U.S and Brazil?

Homework Answers

Answer #1

Chinese agricultural lands have been facing a scarcity of arable lands. The problem is that their arable land is less in quantity when compared to the population that it has to feed. The two challenges that China will face are :

1. To preserve the quantity as well as the quality of its arable land. This has to be ensured with the constraint of rapid urbanisation.

2. Methods have to be sought to increase the productivity of the lands.

One prime difference between Chinese and Brazilian situation is that agriculture in Brazil is completely liberalised. In the future, we can definitely see that Brazil will be the largest producer of Soybean. Brazil's situation is different because Brazil has more land resources and cheaper labour when compared to the US.
