Appalachian governors supported the establishment of the Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC) in the early 1960s. However, some politicians from outside the region felt that issues such as poverty and economic development should be addressed nationally. They did not believe that certain regions should receive targeted assistance. Do you agree that Appalachia should have been treated uniquely and separately from other urban and rural regions of the United States? Why or why not? Should Appalachia continue to receive special treatment in the future? Why or why not? Your response should be approximately 200 words.
Post war scenarios include continuous efforts for economic and overall national growth. After the war, the national committee decided to identify places or regions that were economically less developed than the other states in the nation Appalachia was one such area that needed individual attention so that it was on par with the other state of the country. Hence I agree with the statement that Appalachia should have been treated uniquely.
I would like to express my concern over extending special aides and recognition to Appalachia since the state is all well developed now does not require any special treatment from the federal government for its growth. Hence it will not be a wise decision to extend special treatment to Appalachia in future.
