Product lifecycle has the following four stages:
1) Introduction
2) Growth
3) Maturity
4) Decline
In the maturity stage, the sales of a product maximise and it can grow no more. Therefore, beyond the maturity stage, the market size of the product keeps declining. In the maturity stage, a product faves competition from more efficient substitutes or technologies. An example of a product in the maturity stage of the product lifecycle is the DVD player. The DVD players market has grown to the stage beyond which it can grow no more. In addition, it is also facing competition from other more efficient technologies such as online streaming services (Amazon Prime Videos, Netflix, etc) and other digital services and technologies.
