There are four models/explanations to Patterns of City Growth. What are the models? Give an example of each from the time period to which each model refers.

The 4 models are-

1. Concentric Zone model. This was developed in 1920s. An example of it would be Chicago in the 1920s when the city developed in concentric circles around its center- the loop.

2. Hoyt model- This was developed in 1939. An example of this would be London in 1940s where good transportation and communication meant that large areas had rents remain same and city developed accordingly.

3. Multiple-Nuclei model- This was developed in 1945. A good example of this model would be Detroit, where different areas had their on centers and automobiles made sure that cities could sprawl around these nucleis and still be connected.

4. Urban Reals Model- This was developed in 1964. San Francisco would be a great example of it during that time as it had different areas (realms) that were self dependent and had different economic activity.
