Will the use of decision tree analysis guarantee the best decision for a firm? Why or why not? If not, why bother using it?

Homework Answers

Answer #1

Answer: A decision tree analysis showcases the various decisions at the various stages of the production that a firm needs to inculcate such that the production process can be enhanced, and the firm can attain the maximum benefits from the production. The decision tree can guide a firm in bringing about the necessary changes at the various levels of its administrative process. However, a decision tree cannot guarantee the best decision for a firm, as it is only a theorative explanation of the whole process. The practical implementation of the process however depends on how well the administrative units implement these decisions and how well the whole production process adjusts to these decisions.

The decision tree analysis therefore can only be a guiding light for an organization or firm in taking measures that could bring in to effect the positive changes that the administration would like to inculcate in the organization. However, it cannot guarantee the success or best decision for the firm.

Growth Option: Decision-Tree Analysis Fethe's Funny Hats is considering selling trademarked, orange-haired curly wigs for University of Tennessee football games. The purchase cost for a 2-year franchise to sell the wigs is $20,000. If demand is good (40% probability), then the net cash flows will be $26,000 per year for 2 years. If demand is bad (60% probability), then the net cash flows will be $6,000 per year for 2 years. Fethe's cost of capital is 11%. Do not round...

Prompt 1: A decision tree is used for both classification and regression. Sometimes, to improve classification accuracy and avoid overfitting, a combination of decision tree models can be used instead of a single decision tree model. Prompt 2: The concept of using several decision tree models for a classification or regression task is known as random forest. In at least two paragraphs, explain in your own words how random forest works.

The company estimates the project would cost $13 million today. Karns estimates that, once drilled, the oil will generate positive net cash flows of $6.11 million a year at the end of each of the next 4 years. Although the company is fairly confident about its cash flow forecast, in 2 years it will have...
