Why Maori food related to the TREATY OF WAITANGI.
In 1840 there was an agreement between more than 500 Maori chiefs and representatives of the British Crown, and it was termed to be the Treaty of Waitangi. Majority of the chiefs signed the agreement version of the treaty in a Maori-language. However the Maori and English versions of language held different meanings, and Europeans and Maori thus had varies expectations of the terms of treaty. Although many chiefs did not sign Treaty of Waitangi, however the government of British insisted that it placed all Maori under the authority of England.
