Each system connected in a network must have a network interface card(NIC). It allows data transmission between computers who are connected over a large network through Internet Protocol (IP) and also from the computers connected via local area network (LAN).

• Communication media (wired and wireless):

It is the physical channel which act as a means of which data is sent and received. Examples:

2. Microwave transmission
3. Communication satellites
4. Fiber Optics

• Nodes:

A node is a device connected to a network which is able to send and receive data. Examples:

1. servers
2. workstations
3. printers

• Router:

Router joins multiple computer networks to each other. It communicates between the internet and the devices taht are connected to the network.
