  2. What are some advantages and disadvantages of selecting a page frame size of 100 bytes? List at least one (1) advantage and disadvantage.
  3. Answer the following questions about a program containing 512 bytes and an operating system using a page frame size of 200 bytes.
    1. How many page frames are necessary to store the entire program in memory?
    2. How many bytes of external fragmentation exists when the entire program is stored in memory?
    3. How many bytes of internal fragmentation exists in page frame containing the first page of the program?
    4. How many bytes of internal fragmentation exists in page frame containing the last page of the program?
    5. On which page would you find the program instruction at byte 256?
    6. What is the displacement within the page of the program instruction at byte 256?

Homework Answers

Answer #1

(1)Having bigger page size (1 MB) leads to lesser page fault,But Higher internal fragmentation
(2)Having smaller page size (100 Bytes) leads to higher page fault rate,But lesser internal fragmentation

Program size = 512 bytes
page size = 200 bytes
Number of page frames = ceil(512/200) = 3 frame
external fragmentation = 600 - 512 = 88 bytes
internal fragmentation = 0 bytes
internal fragmentation = 200 - 112 = 88 bytes

Byte number 256 found in page frame ceil(256/100) = second frame
displacement = 256 mod 200 = 56
