What are the measures to take in order to limit shrinkage in a wooden building? ( only two are good)
a) Wood more humid during construction.
b) Lower relative humidity during construction
c) High relative humidity during construction
d) Drier wood during construction
in my opinion its drier the wood and to have a high RH
c) High relative humidity during construction and
d) drier wood during construction
Explanation:
Wood swells up on gaining moisture and shrinks when it looses moisture.
If the wood is more humid during construction that means that it has more moisture content, so after sometime it will start loosing its moisture in order to reach equilibrium moisture content or to match which the humidity of the sorrounding. Due to the loss of moisture in the wood , the wood will shrink. And therefore it is preferred to use a dry wood during construction.
On the other hand , if the relative humidity is more (high) then the moisture content in the sorrounding will be more and so the wood will gain moisture from the sorrounding and this will prevent the shrinkage of the wood. Therefore , it is preferred to have a High relative humidity during construction.
