List out the different types of forces acting on a tall structure.

List out the different types of forces acting on a tall structure.

Homework Answers

Answer #1

There are five types of loads that can act on a structure are tension, compression, shear, bending and torsion.

1) Tension => Tension occurs when there is longitudinal displacement in the component of building .

The bottom side of a beam experience tension .

2) Compression occurs when there is decrease in length of the component . One of the example is column . Column in building structure resist compressive load .

3)Shear => Shear force occurs when the displacement is parallel to the applied force .

4) Bending

Bending occurs when there is rotation due to the force or moment . The beam experience bending moment of a structure .

5) Torsion => Torsion occurs whe the rotation of the building component occurs about the same axis of the moment .

The example of the torsion could be a slab that is fixed at one end and free at other ends .

Three forces are acting on a stationary object. Force A is 360N acting at 64 degrees North of East. Force B is 280N acting at 40 degrees West of North and Force C of 420N acting at -150 degrees. If the mass of the object is 100 kg and the coefficient of friction is 0.44 determine the velocity of the object after 8 seconds (its response requires a direction).

Some common types of forces that you will be dealing with include the gravitational force (weight), the force of tension, the force of friction, and the normal force. It is sometimes convenient to classify forces as either “contact forces” between two objects that are touching or as “long-range forces” between two objects that are some distance apart. Contact forces include tension, friction, and the normal force. Long-range forces include gravity and electromagnetic forces. Note that such a distinction is useful...
