Reaction rates can be varied by changing either the concentration of the reacting species or the temperature at which the reaction is carried out. True or False

Homework Answers

Answer #1

Reaction rates can be varied with temperature

Because If we increase temperature of reaction collisions will increase resulting rate of reaction will increase.

Reaction rates can be varied with concentration of the reacting species with some condition

When we increase the concentration of reactant the probablity for collioson will increase resulting rate of reaction will increase. For that reactant should be participated in rate determing step

IF it is not participated in rate determing step then rate of reaction will not increase.

Consider the combustion of methane in oxygen (a reaction we've seen when we've lit soap bubbles on fire), which is a highly exothermic reaction. True or False: Once the activation energy has been reached increasing the concentration of methane and oxygen will increase the rate of the reaction. A successful collision (one that leads to the combustion of methane) will have sufficient energy and the correct orientation. A mixture of methane and oxygen can be kept in the same container...
