The subshell f also means Azimuthal quantum number, = 3

Azimuthal quantum number, = 0 represents 's' subshell

Azimuthal quantum number, = 1 represents 'p' subshell

Azimuthal quantum number, = 2 represents 'd' subshell

Azimuthal quantum number, = 3 represents 'f' subshell

Hence for 5f orbital, conditions for n and are

  • n = 5
  • = 3

the only option that satisfies these conditions is option B
