Chemistry Charles's Law \ Purpose of this experiment was to determine the number of degrees difference between 0 degrees Celsius and 0K.
1. A student doing this experiment was not very attentive to the experiment. Predict possible effects of the following situations, and state whether the situation would result in higher, lower, or unchanged value for Y.
(c.) The student used two different mercury thermometers during the experiment, one to measure the temperature of the boiling water in the beaker, and the other to measure the temperature of the water in the cold water bath.
(d.) The student closed the pinch clamp without equalizing the water levels inside and outside the flask, while it was resting on its side in the cooling bath.
Soluion :- If a student uses the different thermometer for measuring the temperature it will not make any differnce because the graph which we will have to plot at the end is of temperature of hot water bath and volume of gas burette so it will not make difference.
d) if a student will not equalize the water lavels inside and outside water inside is less then water outside then the value of volume expanded on increasing the teperature will be less the actuall volume as a result volume calculated at 0o C by graph will also be less. then on calculating the temperature theri will a negative error means the value of y (temperature ) will be lower.
