which direction is the polarimeter handle turned for a (-)- enantiomer?
Polarimeter is an instrument used to determine the optical rotation of chemical molecules when plane polarised light will pass through a chemical molecule, the angle of rotation changes ie, it may rotate clockwise or anti clockwise direction. Molecules which rotate the plane polarised in a clockwise direction are called dextrorotatory and which rotate it towards anti-clockwise are called leavo rotatory. Molecules which rotate the plane polarised in a clockwise direction are called dextrorotatory and which rotate it towards anti-clockwise are called leavo rotatory.
