What is the reaction scheme for the following reaction: 2-3 crystals of K2Cr2O7 are dissolved in 1mL of concentrated H2SO4. This mixture is heating until It’s boiling. Then, 0.5 grams of the inorganic, monatomic anion of fluorine with the chemical formula F− is dissolved in the mixture.
2-3 crystals of K2Cr2O7 are dissolved in 1mL of concentrated H2SO4. This mixture is heating until It’s boiling.
K2Cr2O7 +
H2SO4 (concentrated) --> K2SO4
+ H2O + 2CrO3
CrO3 + H2O -->
H2CrO4
On heating upto boiling point (Its an explosive reaction as
chromium trioxide is forming)
4CrO3 --> 2Cr2O3 +
3O2
In normal conditions nothing will happen upon adding F- ion to above mixture.
Cr2O3 + F- --> CrF5 + CrF6 + CrOxFy (all these substances are volatile. In plasma experiments these types of films will be produced)
