Which of the following compounds will be most soluble in hexanes?

a.CaCO3

b.H2S

c.CH3CH2OH

d.CH3CH=CHCH3

e.NH3

Homework Answers

Answer #1

Since hexane is non polar compound hence it will be soluble in non polar compound.

Calcium carbonate (CaCO3) is an ionic compound ( to some extent) , all ionic compounds are polar, so it will not soluble in hexane.

H2S is non polar compound hence it will be soluble in hexane.

CH3CH2OH is polar compound hence it will not soluble in hexane.

CH3CH=CH-CH3 is non polar hence it will soluble in hexane.

NH3 is polar molecule hence it will not soluble in hexane.

Since CH3CH=CHCH3 is more non polar than H2S hence most soluble compond in hexane is (d).
