Describe a titration when a basic solution is added to an acidic solution and explain whether this is proper technique. Include any additional precautions that might be necessary during this titration.
In a titration of strong acid (HCl) with strong base (NaOH), the base is added to acid. We take acid in volumetric flask, and add phenolphthalein as an indicator. Then NaOH is added from burette to neutralise the acid. The volume at which the colour of the solution changes from colourless to pink because of indicator, is the end point. End point is the point at which the complete neutralisation happens. This is a general technique of titration. This is a proper technique.
The additional precautions necessary during the titration are:
Acid and base are corrosive, so it is better to wear gloves, safety glasses and lab coat while working.
These chemicals should not come in direct contact with eyes or skin.
The clothes should be protected from indicator, phenolphthalein as it may stain the clothes.
