I thought of plastic clothes hangers as being used below the glass transition temperatures. Plastic clothes hangers need to be hard and rigid to handle the weight of different types of clothing that hand on them. Plastic hangers are made from polystyrene no. 6 according to my research which has a glass transition temperature under 100 Celsius.

Silicone based products such as silicone bracelets or silicone cables are used above their glass transition temperatures. The glass transition temperature range is usually between -40 and -100 Celsius. This allows the bracelets and wires to bend and expand to fit a persons wrist or to bend with the weight of the wires.

Glass transition temperature is the temperature region where the hard glassy like material become soft and can be given any shape and size.

Polystyrene is thermoplastic polymer which has glass transition temperature of about 100 Celsius.

Glass transition temperature provide the knowledge about the nature of polymer at its service temperaturew Weather its glassy or rubbery.

The glass transition temperature depend upon what property are desired in polymer for example if you require hard and tough then the polymer used is below the glass transition temperature example 100 Celsius in case of polystyrene and when required soft ,flexibility then we used polymer above glass transition temperature example epoxy, silicone which have transition temperature below zero.
