When 230 mg of AgNO3 and 0.02 g of Kl are mixed together in 1 L of water, how much Agl will form?

Homework Answers

Answer #1

first write the balanced equation

AgNO3 + KI ---> AgI + KNO3

230 mg = 0.23 grams

no o fmoles of AgNO3 = 0.23 g / 169.87 g/mol = 0.001354 moles

no of moles of KI = 0.02 g / 166 g/mol = 0.0001205 moles

actually to get one mole of AgI both will required eqially one on mole

but here KI is limiting agent

so product will form according to limiting agent

0.0001205 moles of AgI will form

weight of AgI = moles of AgI x molar mass of AgI

= 0.0001205 moles x 234.8 g/mol

= 0.0283 grams AgI will form

The Freundlich isotherm constants (Table 13.2) and K= 190 (mg/g)(L/mg)1/n, and 1/n = 0.33. The water to be treated has a Chlordane concentration of 0.1 mg/L. Since the MCL is 0.002, you must design for an equilibrium concentration of 0.0005 mg/L. The flow rate is 1 MGD. Assume a carbon density of 30 lb/ft3, and a typical carbon column depth of 10 ft. The carbon contractors must provide one year of treatment before new carbon is needed. Specify the following:...
