moles of anhydrous compound? moles of water? formula opf hydrated compound?

Also does anyone know how to find the identity and formula of an unknown compound given the lab data? is there a specific way or formula to calculate that?

Homework Answers

Answer #1

CuSO4x2H2O

Moles of anhydrous compound = 1mol

moles of water = 2mol

formula for hydrated compound = CuSO4.2H2O

Name = Calcium sulfate dihydrate

MgSO4x7H2O

Moles of anhydrous compound = 1mol

moles of water = 7mol

formula for hydrated compound = MgSO4.7H2O

Name : Magnesium sulfate heptahydrate

ZnSO4x7H2O

Moles of anhydrous compound = 1mol

moles of water = 7mol

formula for hydrated compound = ZnSO4.7H2O

Name: Zinc sulfate heptahydrate.

To identify the compound we have do the qualitative test for each ion (for cation and anion). To know the formula elemental analysis should done.

Empirical Formula of Epsom Salt Introduction Hydrates are crystalline solids that contain a fixed number of water molecules as an integral part of their crystalline structure. The number of water molecules bound per metal ion is often characteristic of that particular metal ion. One of the common hydrates is hydrated magnesium sulfate (Epsom salt). Epsom salt is used to reduce inflammation when applied externally. Epsom salts formula is sometimes written as MgSO4.xH2O. In this experiment, you will be trying to...

An empirical formula is the lowest whole number ratio of the elements in a compound and provides information about the composition of a compound. For instance, the compound sodium sulfate decahydrate has the chemical formula Na2SO4•10H2O. This formula conveys the information that there are ten water molecules per two sodium ions per one sulfate ion. You might wonder: “How were these ratios determined?” To answer the question it is necessary to recognize that the ratio of atoms (or ions) is...

*Please give me a detailed answer with a paragraph or two for the below information* Is the Right Price a Fair Price? Prices are often set to satisfy demand or to reflect the premium that consumers are willing to pay for a product or service. Some critics shudder, however, at the thought of $2 bottles of water, $150 running shoes, and $500 concert tickets.                    Take a position: Prices should reflect the value that consumers are willing to pay versus prices...
