Write the net ionic equations for these reactions.
a)To test for (CO3)-2, HCL and Na2CO3 were reacted together.
b)HCL and Na2So4 and BaCl2 reacted to produce BaSo4 precipitate.
c) (HPO4)-2 and NH4+ and (MoO4)-2 and H+ reacted to produce (NH4)3PO4•12MoO3 and H2O

Homework Answers

Answer #1

a) the reaction equation for HCl and Na2CO3 will be

2HCL + Na2CO3 --> 2NaCl + H2CO3

H2CO3 -> H2O + CO2

Ionic equation will be

2H+ + 2Cl- + 2Na+   + CO3-2 --> 2Na+ + 2Cl- + H2O + CO2

So the net ionic equation will be [Na+ And Cl- get cancelled]

2 H+(aq) + CO3-2(aq) --> H2O(l) + CO2(g)

b) BaCl2 + Na2SO4 --> BaSO4(s) + 2NaCl

Net ionic equation will be

Ba+2 + 2Cl- + 2Na+ + SO4-2 --> BaSO4 + 2Na+ + 2Cl-

Ba+2 + SO4 --> BaSO4(s)

C) The reaction will be

HPO42-(aq) + 3 NH4+(aq) + 2 MoO42-(aq) + 3 H+(aq) --> (NH4)3PO4(MoO3)2(s) + 2 H2O(l)

The net reaction will also be the same.
