Rank the following 0.010 M solutions in order of increasing pH. NH3 NaOH HClO4 HCl NaF H2CO3 HF Ba(OH)2 NaNO3 NH4Cl

Homework Answers

Answer #1

NH3 ---- weak base pH near to 7 and above 7

NaOH ----- strong base so pH near to 14

HClO4 ---- strong acid so pH is near to 0 or 1

HCl ----- strong acid , so pH near to 0

NaF ---- Is a salt of strong base & weak acid , so the resultant solution is weak base in nature so pH is near to 7 and above 7

H2CO3 ---- weak acid so the pH is near to 7 and below 7

HF also weak acid, & is stronger than H2CO3

Ba(OH)2 ---- strong base so pH is near to 14

NaNO3 ----- is a salt of strong acid & strong base so the resultant solution is neutral so pH is 7

NH4Cl   ---- is a salt of strong acid & weak base so the pH near to 7 and below 7

So the order of increasing pH is :

HCl ,HClO4 , HF , H2CO3 , NaF , NH4Cl , NaNO3 , NH3 , Ba(OH)2 , NaOH
