Question

Out of the 2 pi bonds, which pi bond has the greater degree of steric crowding?

Out of the 2 pi bonds, which pi bond has the greater degree of steric crowding?

Homework Answers

Answer #1

Pi bonds are formed by the sideway overlapping of molecular orbitals. In these bonds the electrons aren't held on the line between the two nuclei, but above and below the plane of the molecule. C-H can make three bonds, out of which one is strong bond called as sigma bond. The rest two are weak and are known as pi bonds. The second pi bond formed shows a greater degree of steric crowding. It is formed by second sideways overlapping which causes crowding there.
