Question

what would be the bond line structure for a acid/base reaction of benzoic acid and naphtalene?

what would be the bond line structure for a acid/base reaction of benzoic acid and naphtalene?

Homework Answers

Answer #1

Shown below are the bond line structure for reaction of benzoic acid and naphthalene under acid/base condition. Benzoic acid would give no reaction with an acid. In presence of base, it deprotonates to give salt of acid.

Naphthalene on the other hand gives no reaction with either acid or the base added.
