The basic geometry for a trigonal bipyramidal molecule having a central atom with fiveelectron pairs. Depending on bonding pairs and nonbonding pairs of electrons the molecular geometry of trigonal bipyramidal molecule will be three different types. These are seesaw (four bonding and one nonbonding), T-shaped (three bonding and two nonbonding) and linear (two bonding and three nonbonding).
