Explain, why it is important that compound of interest should be highly soluble at boiling point and exhibit low solubility at room temperature in solvent for recrystallization. Discuss briefly what will happen if compound show high solubility at the room temperature
Ans :
Yes it is very important that the compound of interest gets dissolved in the solvent at boiling point and that too in a good ratio , so that the impurities trapped in the compound comes into the solvent in the dissolved form.
Now when this solution is cooled at the room temperature , the compound recrystallises back into the compound , a it has low solubility in the solvent and the impurities stay in the solvent dissolved.
Now if the compound has high solubility even at the room temperature , it will be difficult for us to purify it or seperate it from the impurities.
