My % error in my Ksp calculation for Calcium iodate was -28.02 % What would cause this? What would cause my calculated value to be 9.09x10-7 compared to the literature value of 7.1x10-7? What would affect the rate of solubility? How would that affect the Ksp value?

Answer #1

The error which has been encountered may be because of the fact that the ionic strength and activity coefficients, must have not been taken into consideration, The error will be least if take these factors into account.
There are majorly two factors that would affect the rate of solubility

(a) Temperature :-Temperature affects the solubility of both solids and gases.

(b) Pressure :-pressure will only affects the solubility of gases.

Since temperature, press, common ion effect all affect the Ksp value thus any affect on rate of solubility will be directly proportional to the affect on ksp.

Discussion. Explain whether each of the errors below would cause your calculated Ksp value to be higher or lower than the tabulated value. Assume you are using method 1 to calculate Ksp. It is also possible that the error would have no effect on the measured Ksp value (so it really wouldn’t be an error). (1 point each) 1.
