Is there a way to determine the extinction coefficient only give the metal ligand complex, spin state, and HOMO LUMO transition energy?
Molar absorptivity coefficient is dependent upon the transition state energy of a metal complex and the feasibility of transition HOMO / LUMO states. Only the transitions which are energetically favoured by the said HOMO/LUMO states permit molar absorpticities and give high values of absorption. The transition states when not allowed due to high energy requirement and forbidden by HOMO/LUMO alignment rules do not have give absorption and have very low or no molar absorptivities.
