Question

How would ADP concentration affect beta oxidation?

How would ADP concentration affect beta oxidation?

Homework Answers

Answer #1

In the beta oxidation of fatty acids, ATP is generated at each of the oxidation cycle.

So, going by this, the ADP concentration would affect the rate of beta oxidation greatly. As the concentration of ADP goes up, the rate of beta oxidation reaction also increases and we get more of acetyl CoA formation in the process. This thus generates more ATP in the system from the consumed ADP during beta oxidation. Likewise If the concentration of ADP falls down, the efficiency of beta oxidation also reduces accordingly as no more ADP is available to consume and carry out the beta oxidation process. The ATP generated from the process also seen to be reduced.
