Describe the process of using a titration to find the concentration of a strong acid using a strong base of known concentraiton. include the nuetralization reaction (you can use invented acids and bases you would like, for example AH or BOH) and sample calculations. Solve for the pH of the unknown solution at three points during the titration.

strong acid + strong base , then

initially

pH of HA acid,

[H+] = [HA]

then

pH = -log(H+) = -log([HA])

b)

in equilibrium

pH = 7, since [BOH] = [HA]

c)

after extra base is added

mol of HA = Macid*Vacid

mol of BOH =Mbase*VBase

there is extra base so:

mol of BOH left after neutralization = (Mbase*VBase-Macid*Vacid)

then

Vtotal = Vacid + Vbase

[BOH] = mol/V = (Mbase*VBase-Macid*Vacid) /( Vacid + Vbase)

pOH = -log(OH- = -log[BOH]

pH = 14 -pOH = 14 + log([BOH])
