What is the leaving group in the reactions that add fatty acid residues to L-glycerol 3-phosphate (en route to triacylglycerol synthesis)?

OH
Pi
coenzyme A
CO2
water

Answer #1

Following is the scheme for biosynthesis of triacylglyceride starting from phospatidic acid.

Removal of inorganic phosphate group is facilitated by phosphatidic acid phosphatase (PAP1) to give the diacylglyceride which upon further acylation with the corresponding fattyacyl-CoA and diacylglycerol O-acyltransferase (DGAT) gives the target triacylglyceride.
