Please answer the following question and explain what answer is right and why the other answers are wrong.

which ground state atom or ion has the electron configuration of [Kr] 5s2 4d10? I Cd II Sn2+

A Both I and II B Only I C Only II D Niether I or II

Homework Answers

Answer #1

Answer is A both I and II because Cd atomic no is 48 its electronic configuration will be 1s2 2s2 2p6 3s2 3p6 4s2 3d10 4p6 5s2 4d10

where as Sn atomic no is 50 its electronic configuration will be 1s2 2s2 2p6 3s2 3p6 4s2 3d10 4p6 5s2 4d10 5p2

but after lossing its 2 electron its configuration becomes 1s2 2s2 2p6 3s2 3p6 4s2 3d10 4p6 5s2 4d10

which is same as [kr]

B says only I which is wrong

C says only II which is wrong

D says nor I AND II this is also wrong
