Homework Answers

Answer #1

Silica or sand is generally used to make a scouring soap. Silica acts as a medium to remove dead cells from the skin and acts as a scrubbing agent.

Soap is formed by the action of the fatty acid with sodium hydroxide. During the process, NaOH, glycerol, and NaCl are also present as impurities. these can be removed by re-precipitating the soap with salt. During re-precipitating sand is added to make scouring soap.

Washing soda is sodium carbonate and it can cause itching if added with soap.

Silicone is basically rubber-like lubricant if it will be added to soap, then the soap will be very hard and will not form bubbles.

Lye is a type of solid form of base. and it is generally present as the impurity at the completion of saponification reaction.

So, B is the correct answer.
