When would the results for an alkalinity titration and a gran titration for acid neutralizing capacity agree? Disagree? If they disagree which would be expected to be higher? Explain everything.
Alkalinity titration is a measure of the ability of water to neutralize acid inputs.Determination of Alkalinity involves determination of an equivalence point.
Gran plot technique. When an alkanility titration determination is being made, titration with a strong acid is used to "cancel" the initial Alkanility so that at the equivalence point the sample Alkanility is zero. The Gran titration is based on that further titration will result in an increase in the number of moles of H+ equal to the number of moles of H+ added. Thus after the equivalence point has been reach the number of moles of H+ added equals the number of moles of H+ in solution.
in case of disagreement Alkanility titration is expected to be higher than gran titration.
