Degrees of unsaturation for the molecules C6H9NO and C6H6NBr?

A) 4 and 6
B) 3 and 4
C)4 and 4
D)6 and 6

Homework Answers

Answer #1

Degree of unsaturation = [(2C + 2) - H - X + N ] / 2

where C = # of carbons present,H = # of hydrogens,X = # of halogens,N = # of nitrogens,Ignore any O or S present.

C6H9NO

Degree of unsaturation = [(2C + 2) - H - X + N ] / 2

                                     = [(2*6 +2) - 9 - 0 + 1]/2

                                     = 3

C6H6NBr

Degree of unsaturation = [(2C + 2) - H - X + N ] / 2

                                     = [(2*6 + 2) - 6 - 1 + 1] / 2

                                     = 4
