Commercial hydrogen peroxide contains small amounts of organic compounds that are added to stabilize it. If these compounds react with permanganate, how would this affect your results?
The concentration of hydrogen peroxide can be determined by reacting it with potassium permanganate solution. Potassium permanganate acts as an oxidising agent .During this titration if commercial hydrogen peroxide contains small amounts of organic compounds that are added to stabilize it may also react with permanganate you would need to add more permanganate to remove these out .During the caliculation you may caliculate higher number of moles of peroxide which makes our concentrations higher than they should be.You would think that there is more H2O2 percent than actual. In this way results may be affected.
