Given that the formation of a complex ion gives rise to the peak near 450 nm in the absorbance spectrum, why should the solution prepared by combining 5 mL 0.00200 M KSCN in 0.50 M HNO3 (ml) with 5 mL of 0.00200 M Fe(NO3)3 in 0.50 HNO3 (ml) give a higher absorbance than the other combinations of volumes studied? pls help me

Answer #1

the question was not justified by not saying what is others

others was the solution of KSCN/ Fe(NO3)3 - the absorbance will be less because of their absorbance capacity in that wave lenght was very less they have lambda max at aprox 420nm

every molecule having a specified lambda max and no two molecules will have same lambda max

tha above question will produce a product of ferric thio cynate which is a complex which having more absorption capacity

and every compoud having only a specified absortion at specified concentration on secified lambda max
