The mass of a metal is 39.54 grams. it was lowered in a graduated cylinder with the initial volume of water at 20.0 mL, the final volume was 40.0 mL. what is the density of Aluminum? What is the specific gravity?

Homework Answers

Answer #1

1) Given concentration is 200 mg/100 ml

                                =   2 gram/L

2) Subtract the initial volume from the final volume to get the volume of the substance that displaces the water

     That means 40-20 =20 ml

   Aluminium Density = mass/Volume = 39.54 grams/ 20 ml

                                           = 1.977 g/ml = 1.977 g/cm^3

3) The specific gravity of a substance is the ratio of its density to that of water

The density of water is 1 g/cm^3

Hence the specific gravity of aluminium = 1.977
