Q) a bottle of Na2EDTA.2H2o is labeled with an assay of 100.5% , what is this implied ? what is the result of heating to 100 c ?

Homework Answers

Answer #1

Solution:

A bottle of Na2EDTA.2H2O labeled with an assay of 100.5%  means that substance under test is purer than the standard, therefore assay comes more than 100 % .

The 100.5 % purity for this compound is due to the fact that when Na2EDTA.2H2O was exposed to a dry environment for several hours, a small amount of the water of hydration could be lost, causing the calculation to have a higher purity.

When it is heating to 100 0C, loss of water take place which further increases its purity and therefore percent assay will increase.
