A salt crystal has a mass of 0.12 mg. how many NaCl formula units does it contain? Show work, (1000mg=1gram)

Homework Answers

Answer #1

mass of NaCl crystals = 0.12 x 10^-3 g

moles of NaCl = 0.12 x 10^-3/58.44 g/mol

                        = 2.05 x 10^-6 mols

Thus we would have = 2.05 x 10^-6 x 6.023 x 10^23

                                  = 1.24 x 10^18 formula units of NaCl

KCl is an ionic salt with a formula weight of 74.54 g/mole. A 1.417 M (mole/liter) KCl solution has a density of 1064.5 grams/liter at 20 OC. Use the Molarity and the formula weight to find the mass (g) of salt in one liter. Then, find the mass (g and kg) of water in one liter of the solution.     Determine the molality (m), or moles of salt per kg of water, by dividing the moles of salt in one liter...

Empirical Formula of Epsom Salt Introduction Hydrates are crystalline solids that contain a fixed number of water molecules as an integral part of their crystalline structure. The number of water molecules bound per metal ion is often characteristic of that particular metal ion. One of the common hydrates is hydrated magnesium sulfate (Epsom salt). Epsom salt is used to reduce inflammation when applied externally. Epsom salts formula is sometimes written as MgSO4.xH2O. In this experiment, you will be trying to...
