The argument in favour - Insects are easy to multiply and require very less investment to establish a suitable habitat or in vitro condition for their growth. Experimentation on insects such as the Drosophila has led advancement in genetics. It is one of the model organism for the study of mutations, gene structures and genetic elements in animals.

One of the questions that concerns ethics is that if insects feel pain. It is common to see insects avoid danger and some of them produce sharp sound when harmed. Although scientific studies on whether insects feel pain have been inconclusive so far, however, scientists believe that they do. A few scientists have proposed several times to regulate the use of insects and methods to use to reduce pain during experimentation.
