How is the spindle able to generate extra kinetochore fibers to accommodate the extra chromosomes?
The microtubules are formed of alpha and beta tubulin monomers and dimers which polymerize into protofilqments and then to microtubules and arrange themselves further in the form of fiber bundles.
The kinetochore is the the main component here, this kinetochore binds to the chromosome early and they eir job is to detect and attach to the microtubules. There are many microtubule bundles present which ar not even attached to chromsomes. So, there is always some extra material present for forming new bundles for new chromosomes. The only need here is to have a kinetochore. Which have a the proteins to bind the fibres and detect them also.
