Ras proteins are found in all mammalian cells, and mutations in Ras are associated with cancer. For example, almost 75% of the tumor cells in lung and prostate cancer patients have a mutation at residue 61 in a protein called H-ras. Examine the structure of H-Ras (pdb code 3K8Y) using Chimera.

Find residue 61 and identify what type of amino acid it is. Enter the proper 3 letter abbreviation.

Homework Answers

Answer #1

H-ras is protein of is a GTPase protein which help in inhibiting the cell growth signaling .for example G protein alfa subunit binds to GTP and then activates MAK Pathway which in term activates jun fos transcription factor which ultimately increase expression of D cyclins which initiates cell replication.

H-ras help in inactivating alfa GTP by Dephosphorylating it and thus help in inhibiting cell proliferation.

Glutamine is 61 number amino acid from n terminus in H-ras protein. Gln is 3 letter abbreviations for glutamine(Q)
