Pyruvate is a by product of glycolysis, pyruvate supplements are being used for weight loss since a long period. It probably acts by reducing the fat deposition and increasing the fat burning. Research studies indicated that pyruvate administration results in loss of calories in the form of heat rather than being stored in the form of fat. The possible side effects of pyruvate include bloating, gastritis, and diarrhea. Pyruvate intake worsens the symptoms of irritable bowel syndrome and diarrhea. Its safety profile in pregnant women is not particularly known.
